Hunting moose in Alaska

An Alaska moose hunt is a different tier: access is usually a bush flight to a gravel bar or river, you're hours-to-days from a road, and weather can ground planes for days. Moose doesn't legally require a guide for nonresidents the way brown bear and sheep do, but most hunters still book one — a bull yields 700+ pounds of meat that has to be packed out.

Fully guided moose runs $14,000–$24,000 all-inclusive of camp, meals, and airstrip transport, plus a ~$800 tag and $160 nonresident license, and budget another $1,000–$3,000 for meat shipping. Verify the outfitter's Registered Guide license at big.state.ak.us, ask about their Guide Use Area and years in it, and expect a large deposit and a 1–2 year lead time.
